Ellicott City’s Local Bathroom Remodeling Pros
Ellicott City homeowners have some of the highest expectations in the Baltimore metro — and the homes to match. From large colonials in Turf Valley and River Hill to upscale move-up homes in Dunloggin and Taylor Village, we have remodeled bathrooms across this market and know what Howard County homeowners expect: quality materials, clean workmanship, clear communication, and a contractor who shows up on schedule. Handyman on Demand delivers all of it.
Many Ellicott City primary baths in homes built 15 to 20 years ago now show their age — grout staining that will not clean, scratched frameless glass, vanity lighting from the mid-2000s, and layouts with oversized whirlpool tubs. We bring these bathrooms current without a full gut when the plumbing and layout are solid, and we do full renovations when the space genuinely needs it.
Bathroom Remodeling Services for Ellicott City, MD Homeowners
We work in all types of Howard County homes — large colonials in Turf Valley, River Hill, and Taylor Village, newer townhomes in Ellicott City proper and Long Gate, historic homes in Old Ellicott City, and established single-family homes in Dunloggin and Centennial Park. Here is what we handle for Ellicott City homeowners:
Custom Walk-In Shower Installation
We tear out old fiberglass tub surrounds and enclosed showers and build custom tile walk-in showers tailored to your Ellicott City home's layout. Frameless glass enclosures, built-in niches, bench seating, rain shower heads, and professional waterproofing membranes that hold up for decades — not just for photos on day one.
Full Bathroom Gut & Remodel
When the bathroom needs more than an upgrade — we go down to the studs, reconfigure layouts, move plumbing where needed, handle all permits, and build everything from scratch. Tile, vanity, lighting, electrical, plumbing, painting — one contractor, one timeline, one point of contact throughout the project.
Tub-to-Shower Conversion
One of the most-requested projects for Ellicott City homeowners. We remove the unused tub, properly waterproof the footprint, and build a modern walk-in shower in its place. Great for aging-in-place, safety, or just a more functional daily routine for busy households.
Vanity, Storage & Fixture Upgrades
New vanities, double-sink conversions, floating cabinets, recessed medicine cabinets, LED mirrors, smart exhaust fans, GFCI outlet upgrades, and updated faucets and fixtures. Quick upgrades that dramatically modernize the space without a full gut remodel.
Tile Installation & Replacement
Floor tile, shower walls, tub surrounds, and accent walls. Ceramic, porcelain, stone, large-format, and mosaic — properly set on the right substrate with correct grout and sealing so it doesn't crack, shift, or grow mold behind it.
Howard County Permit-Ready, Full-Scope Renovations
Howard County has specific code requirements around GFCI protection, exhaust fan ventilation, plumbing venting, and accessible design. We know the code, pull all required permits, and build to Howard County inspection standards so your project is fully documented and compliant.

We recently completed a master bathroom renovation with Handyman on Demand LLC, and they are the best contractors we have ever worked with. Sobir and Sara were professional, communicative, patient, and truly listened to what we wanted. Their crew was skilled, respectful of our home, and left everything clean at the end of each day. The craftsmanship and attention to detail are outstanding — we couldn’t be happier with the result and highly recommend them.

We remodeled our master bathroom, replaced the old vanity, installed new tile, removed the tub and expanded the shower, installed a heater fan, new fixtures, and wainscoting. Handyman on Demand did an outstanding job - their team was professional, courteous, clean, and quick. We appreciate that they were really willing to work with us throughout the project. We ended up expanding the work and adding some extra recessed ceiling lights, replaced all the toilets throughout the house, and replaced our tankless hot water heater. They were able to complete everything quickly, provided outstanding drywall detailing, sanding, and painting, and kept everything clean throughout the entire effort. We would not hesitate to recommend them, and will be using them for future projects.

February 2026: Handyman on Demand sistered joists; renovated a half bathroom; repaired drywall; mounted a TV; hung wallpaper; painted several rooms; and installed new lights and light switches. Their team showed up on time, did high quality work, and cleaned up each day before leaving. They also accommodated an expanding scope and design changes along the way. Their office was communicative about costs and timeline and answered questions I had before and during the work. I will definitely work with Handyman on Demand again!

Bathroom Remodeling Tips for Ellicott City, MD Homeowners
Know What Ellicott City Homes Are Made Of Before Demo Starts
Ellicott City homes — especially in Turf Valley and River Hill — were often built with builder-grade tile and fiberglass shower surrounds even at higher price points. Before any new tile is installed, we verify what is behind the existing surround. Many mid-2000s homes have moisture damage from minor grout failures that built up over years. We correct the substrate before any finish work begins.
Always Waterproof Properly — Even If It Costs More
Ellicott City primary baths in larger colonials often have multiple wet areas — a walk-in shower plus a separate soaking tub. Both require full waterproofing membranes. We use Schluter Kerdi or RedGard on all wet surfaces, with proper sloped mortar beds on shower floors. This is the standard that eliminates subfloor moisture over time.
Design Around Your Ellicott City Home's Actual Plumbing
In Howard County homes, drain and supply line locations are generally favorable for reconfiguration — most are on slab or in accessible floor systems. However, moving a drain still adds cost and time. We map your existing plumbing at the estimate and design the new layout to minimize moves unless repositioning provides a clear functional benefit.
Ventilation Prevents Expensive Mold Problems
Howard County code requires properly vented exhaust fans in all bathrooms. In Ellicott City primary baths with large custom showers, we recommend a commercial-grade fan or dual fan setup with humidity sensors to manage moisture in a large wet area. This is especially important if you are adding a steam system.
Large Format Tile Transforms Small Bathrooms
Large-format tile — 24x48 or 24x24 porcelain — is the standard choice in Ellicott City primary bath renovations. We use self-leveling compound and back-butter every tile for 100% coverage to prevent hollow spots and cracking over time. The result is a clean, seamless floor or wall surface that photographs like a luxury hotel.
Pull Permits — It Protects You When You Sell
Howard County is strict about permit requirements. Any bathroom remodel involving plumbing, electrical, or structural changes requires a permit. Unpermitted work is a real issue during home sales in this market — buyers' agents and inspectors flag it. We pull every required permit and give you the documentation at project completion.
