This Elkridge project by the numbers
- ~8 days from demolition to finished bathroom
- $10k–$13k labor for this scope
- 2 sinks where there used to be one
- 1 year labor warranty on the work
The before
A Long, Narrow Bath Stuck in the Past
This Elkridge bathroom is long and narrow, with the shower at the far end under the window. It worked, but it looked tired: one sink for a busy household, a dark vanity that made the room feel smaller, and an old fiberglass shower stall with a framed sliding door.
The homeowners picked out their own vanity, tile, mirrors and fixtures. Our job was to tear the room out, fix what was behind the walls and install everything so it looked like it was made for the space.
- A single-sink espresso vanity with a granite top and a cabinet crowding the toilet
- A fiberglass shower stall with a framed, frosted sliding door
- Wood-look plank flooring that didn’t suit a wet room
- Dated lighting and a room that felt dark from the doorway
How we built it
Studs to Finished in About 8 Days
A full gut and rebuild, done in roughly a week and a half of work. The shower was built from the framing out so it stays watertight for years.
- Step 1
Demo and rough-in
We removed the vanity, wall cabinet, fiberglass stall and flooring down to the studs and subfloor, then reworked the plumbing for a double vanity and the new shower valve.
- Step 2
Shower build and waterproofing
New cement board, a built-in niche and a sloped shower base, then a red liquid waterproofing membrane over every wall and the floor of the shower before any tile went on.
- Step 3
Layout and tile
Large black floor tiles were dry-laid with a laser line first so the diagonal pattern runs straight down the long room, then the marble-look shower walls and black hex niche went in.
- Step 4
Finish and glass
Paint, the double vanity and top, backlit round mirrors, light bars, matte black fixtures and grab bar, then the sliding glass shower door and final walkthrough.
The after
Bright, Modern and Built to Last
The room is the same size, but it reads completely differently. Light walls and a white vanity open it up, the black floor and fixtures tie it together, and the shower is now a full tiled walk-in instead of a plastic stall.

What a Bathroom Like This Costs in Elkridge
Labor on this project came to about $10,000–$13,000. The homeowners bought their own vanity, tile, mirrors, glass and fixtures, so materials are not included in that number. What drove the labor: a full gut to the studs, moving plumbing for a second sink, a built-from-scratch waterproofed tile shower with a niche, and large-format tile on a diagonal.
Buying your own materials can save money, and we’re happy to work that way. We’ll tell you what to order, how much tile to get and when it needs to be on site. For full pricing with materials, read our guide on how much a bathroom remodel costs in Maryland. Every estimate is written and itemized.
Remodels that move plumbing or add circuits in Elkridge go through Howard County permitting; we handle the permits and inspections for you.
